Why I chose to take a gap year

Hello my loves. The summer vacation has now begun and before you know, people will start study at their universities and other studies they have chosen. However, what about the people who have chosen a gap year? Is it a good idea or are you just lazy and wasting your time?
As some of you might know, I have decided to take a gap year, which I think is the best for me. I have been talking with a lot of people who had different opinions on taking a gap year, which I find very interesting.
The people who have been taking a gap year said it was the best choice in their life, as they suddenly had the opportunity to go travel and just take a break from studying. If you can't go travel in your younger days, when will you have the opportunity to go explore the world? As soon as you have finished uni, you are most likely to go off working, and before you know, you might even have started a family.

However, I did not take a gap year to travel, but actually to study and work. Well, how is it a gap year if I have to study then? For the universities I want to apply for next year, I'm missing a few subjects like Danish and social studies and therefore need to accomplish those two subjects before I can apply to uni. It will take me 6 months and after I can hopefully work full time. Taking an IB has been a huge challenge for me since I decided to go from speaking Danish everyday and learning all my subjects in Danish to suddenly do everything in English. Therefore, I think that I 'deserve' a year to *gear down*, and not having to stress about uni applications and have to get back to school already. Well I am going back to school, but not on the same level 😅

I have also talked to people who said that taking a gap year might make it harder to get back to school, since you might suddenly start earning money from your job and therefore get stuck in the 'money bubble'. You start earning more money than your friends, who have decided to go straight to uni who therefore don't have the opportunity to work as much. In the beginning you feel like you get more out of it than your friends, but if you do get stuck in the 'money bubble', your friends could end up earning more money than you in the long run.

Discipline is key when taking a gap year. I think that you should take a gap year if you have a purpose, such as maybe wanting to work and earn a little money, or go travelling, and of course relax a little. However, it gets dangerous when you suddenly don't do anything and completely let go. You should at least make the most out of it, and not just lay on the sofa all day long. It's understandable if you need to recharge your batteries, but for a whole year? I'm already now feeling restless, not having an IB hanging over my head. However, soon I will begin studying my two courses and hopefully find a job. I'm so excited for all the new experiences that will happen throughout this year since so many things in my life is about to change.

Hello my loves.
